Maithon Dam is located on the banks of river Barakar which is about 48 km from the coal city of Dhanbad. It was developed by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC Ltd) way back in the year 1948 and is about 15712 ft. long. The Maithon Dam can generate around 60,000 KW of electric power. It is located on a beautiful landscape amidst green forests which is surrounded by a beautiful lake making it a popular tourist destination. The Maithon Dam is a multipurpose project that serves various purposes like flood control, irrigation purpose, and power generation.
